I asked a previous question on this, #5075 (and a copy of it by
mistake). I was looking for a picture of the George Segal sculpture,
Sidney Janis Looking at a Painting by Mondrian, 1967 to use on a site
of Mondrian bits and pieces (www.snap-dragon.com/mondrian.htm).
Galahad-ga put me onto a CNN page containing just the thing, so I
added it to the site.

I noticed recently that the picture has an Associated Press label on
it and so, being a nice sort chap, wrote to them asking for permission
to use it. The wheels of their business grind slowly, but I get the
impression that they are not too happy and want payment.

Which leads to these questions. Can anyone tell me who owns this work,
so that I can ask them for a snap of it? Additionally, any ideas on
where I might find a royalty-free picture of it?

I'm sure honesty pays overall, just not in this case.

Cheers

Nick

Hi leli

That's a jolly good start - thanks very much. I wondered about
approaching the Segal Estate, but couldn't find any reference. You
Segal Foundation suggestion is a great one - I have emailed them and
will keep my fingers crossed.

cheers

Nick

It is not in the Smithsonian inventory of American sculpture
http://www.siris.si.edu/webpac-bin/wgbroker. It does not seem to be
in a public collection ? at least not in the US. It has not changed
hands for money within the last fifteen years ? see
http://web.artprice.com .

One possible way of finding the owner might be acquiring the one book
on Segal written by Phyllis Tucker in 1983 ? secondhand copy just over
ten dollars at book http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1558592555/ref%3Dnosim/theartcyclopedia/103-0808072-9593421

But your best bet could be to contact the Segal foundation ? there is
contact information at http://segalfoundation.org/main.shtml .

Good luck from one rather frustrated researcher who enjoyed your
website.
