Question ID: 340937
Can you provide me links to images of everyday items in a home during
Homeric Greece? For my purposes I am assuming Homeric Greece to be
encompassed by the Mycenaean Civiliation (circa 1400 BC) to the
beginning of the Archaic Period (800, 750 BC). As I believe Homer
cannabalized objects and phrasings from throughout these periods. The
difficult part I have run into is that I am not looking for Classical
Greek items (these are the easiest items to find). I need to know for
certain that they are from this time period. I am specifically
looking to be able to create a 3d model of a fully equipped home.

Are you aware of the existence of this book...?

Everyday Things in Homeric Greece
by C. H. Quennell, Marjorie Quennell

If you'd like assistance in ordering a copy of it, just let me know.

Hello,

Pafalafa,
Thank you for your response. Yes I actually own a copy of that book,
as well as The World of Odysseus, Knossos: Searching for the Legendary
Palace of King Minos, Ancient Greece: From Prehistoric to Hellenistic
Times, and approximately 15 other books I've collected from Amazon.com
and alibris.com. I mention these titles because they sounded the most
promising to gain images from. Everyday Things in Homeric Greece is
unfortunately a little lite on images. It has a number of city
layouts, some figures performing various activities, but only a pair
of images of everyday items ("Everyday Activities" would have been a
more appropriate title).

Blackbird, thank you for the post as well. In looking at the site it
certainly does appear quite useful, though I was hoping for a few more
detailed examples, if possible. In the picture its difficult to make
out most of the objects in the back left. It would be great to have
additional utensils, tools, toys, or if none of these, then pictures
closer to the objects so that the details become apparent (such as the
item I believe is a table or a seat in the back of the picture) I need
this because the style of the patterns on the object will have to be
recreated, to re-create the objects (even if it is a sparse room) for
a 3D walkthrough of the home.

Thank you again for the assistance, but if its available I'd like
images that display the details of the items.

Matt

There is a "typical rural Cretan house" recreated at the Heraklion
Archaeological Museum (Room X, Post-palatial Minoan civilization,
1400-1100 BC) which might be of interest. See "Crete travel guide":

(scroll down to the bottom of the page for a small image).
Kind regards
