Sighsten Herrgård was born in Sweden 1943, and died in 1989 from AIDS.
He was a renowned fashion designer, working both in Sweden and Paris.
I want to know more about his work in this area; I especially would
like to find pictures of his work, and references to books and vintage
magazines that contain text and pictures of and about his work. I am
also interrested in information that put his work in context, such as
how the art and fashionworld of his times influenced him. |

Hello boreno-ga:
A quick search brought up quite a few hits for Sighsten Herrgård;
however, many of them are -- not too suprisingly -- written in
Swedish!
Do you happen to read Swedish? (If not, there are online translations
services that will translate text into English.)
Would an answer that includes sites written in Swedish be acceptable to you?
Thanks,
nancylynn-ga

Hi, nancylynn-ga!
Searching on [insert favorite search engine here] for S.H. only gives
results that deals with his latter years living with AIDS (he was the
first person ever to go public in Sweden on having AIDS, "giving AIDS
a face", which obviously is his most renowned legacy it would seem),
and as I'm primarily interested in his work, this doesn't help.
That said, I am from Sweden, and Swedish references is fine by me. But
references not dealing primarily with his work within and around the
fashion design industry is not what I am looking for, so I guess that
doesn't qualify as 'acceptable'.
I have tried finding information about him through related searches,
such as for "Mah Jong" (a Swedish renowned fashion collective between
1968-8x), but it's not easy. Also, the Swedish designer "Katja of
Sweden" (from around 1950) should be a clue for finding more
information, since it was the most internationally renowned Swedish
fashion designer at the time (working in New York), and an important
inspiration for the designers that emerged during the late 60s and
70s.

Well, I guess Swedish won't be a problem for you, then! (Btw, my
mother's mother's family came from Varberg.)
OK. I'll focus on finding information about his work and influences on
his work, etc.
Besides online information, I'll also look for vintage magazines for
sale that contain photo-spreads of Herrgård's designs, and any books
that discuss his work.
I hope to have an answer for you within a few days.

Hello boreno-ga,
All I can do is run these links past you and you'll have to tell me if this
is sufficient as an answer -- I don't think it is, though!
Unfortunately, I can't translate enough of the Scandinavian pages to feel
confident about how on-target this is.
It appears a biography of Herrgård was written and published in 1988:
See Swedish bookseller site
http://www.ryo.se
And on page:
http://www.ryo.se/katalog/en-mem.html
See entry:
"Herrgård, Sighsten / Werkelid, Carl Otto: SIGHSTEN. Stockholm: Norstedts,
1988. 287 s. Förlagets klotband med skyddsomslag. Fotoillustrerad. (#42449)
100:- "
I found a reference to him having managed the VMG modeling agency:

Centre Culturel Suédois's CatWalk has two very brief entries:

An interview with Herrgård's god-daughter, Kristin Kaspersen:

You can also try AltaVista's Swedish search engine:
http://se.altavista.com/
with the search term "Sighsten Herrgård."
I struck out completely searching Amazon and eBay Scandinavia. I doubt what
I found is sufficient, so if you'd like, we can just keep this question open
in hopes that one of my colleagues can located more comprehensive
information on Herrgård.
