Hi, my Main man:

Do you have access to any mathematical modelling packages like
Mathematica, Matlab, Maple, or Mathcad?

Many "interactive tutorials" will build on these foundations, instead
of starting from scratch with Java applets. So please advise if these
are available to you.

I don't think the course requires those softwares,or will it? I don't
have them and also what do you mean by "starting from scatch using
jave aplets".

Many interactive demonstrations or "tutorials" available on the Web
will involve small software applications written in Java or other
scripting languages that run within the framework of your browser.
Java is a general programming language, not specifically focused on
linear algebra, so developing such demos often involves a certain
amount of "reinventing the wheel". Their attraction is that Java is
freely available on most platforms, and the "applets" distributed in
this fashion are highly portable.

thanks. If I'd be needing to understand any of those softwares,I guess
I could get them online because I don't have any of them.If the java
aplets would aid me in understanding the subject based on the course
outline. That would be cool then.

I have used books by Research and Education Associates for this and
other math subjects with a lot of sucess. The books are quite large
(about 1,000 pages), but are well structured. It is a problem book
organized by chapters. Each chapter tackles a specific topic and has
problems in it. Each problem is designed (from simplest to more
complex) to demonstrate an aspect of that topic. The really nice
thing is that they work out each problem in little steps and to
completion with explanations. Which is why the book is so long. When
I was studying for Actuarial exams I liked these books better than
Schaum's study guides. Schaums is another source, but they do not
work out each problem step by step; REA does. I still use the books
to refer to some problem if I am having a problem remembering how to
do a particular thing.
