Hello,

It seems that you’ve mistakenly typed "Spousal" as "Sousal".

Federal rules now offer protection for spouses who remain at home
while the other spouse is in a nursing home. The Spousal
Impoverishment Act of 1988 is a federal law that allows the at-home
spouse of a nursing home resident to keep more income and more of the
couple's assets than previously allowed. This act made a difference in
keeping people from losing their very last few dollars, but it didn't
change things enough. One good thing about the Spousal Impoverishment
Act is that the at-home spouse can keep working and maintain their
salary without having it confiscated by the government.

The law varies from state to state and you can get more information by
contacting your respective state department for this. If you can let
me know in which state you are, I can try giving more related info to
you.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask for any clarification and if you
are satisfied with the answer, then do rate it.

I think the low rating is completely unjustified. A "detailed
explanation" was requested, not an analysis of the law's
merits/faults. I would have answered it in the same fashion,
explaining the details of the law itself. If this was not what you
wanted, asking for a clarification would have been a much fairer way
to go, and I'm sure netcrazy would have done everything possible to
oblige you.
