Hi, Friends

Can either of you find me a copy of 'Der Fall William Joyce' by Helmut K J Ridder.

It was published by J C B Mohr (Paul Siebeck), Tuebingen, in 1952.

I have searched ABE and Addall but maybe there are other sources for
German language books.

Many thanks!

Bryan

Found a copy, but in a library. Would you like it, inter-library loan?

BTW - She's not only a divine entity but also the president of Nigeria.

OK. Good news: found it. Bad news: Price: US$ 19682.92 , or, a bit
more affordable, US$ 7723.67

I'll keep on searching.

BTW - from the description I found, I think you'll be a little
dissapointed: it's 12 pages, if I understood correctly. With the
length of German sentences, that's like 8 pages in English ;-)

Wow, PG ... That is VERY expensive!

And so slim!

I suspect that, if it's that valuable, it wouldn't be available as an
Inter-Library Loan, particularly to the UK.

Is there any chance of getting a photocopy?

Many thanks for looking and for keeping looking.

I shall just keep on hoping.

Doch(!), as Freddie mentioned, it could be available - the thing is,
that it is categorised as an article in a journal, not as a book.
Nothing rare, just not the common thing people sell...

Your Majesty

You are hereby coronated as Her Royal Highness, Queen Politicalguru I.

Long Live the Queen!

And, henceforth, you will be entitled to wear a Crown over your name, so:

HM Queen Pöliticalguru.

Here in the UK, we call this crown an 'umlaut' but you may know it by
some entirely different name.

You fully deserve this high honour by having identified the piece as a
Magazine Article so, Your Majesty, when you deliver thy answer, please
tell your humble servant how he might obtain a copy of the said
Article, without involving any enormous expense.

Please remember that I live in the UK and that I am just a poor student.

Thanks a Million!

Dear Poor Student,

Well, I actually think that Freddie brought (almost) everything, but
I'll summarise the findings anyway.

Helmut Ridder is a professor (Emeritus) of law in the University of Gie?en.

In 1952, he published, in "Zeitschrift f?r die gesamte
Staatswissenschaft", a 12-page article titled "Der Fall William
Joyce".

Full bibliographic details:

Ridder, Helmut, "Der Fall William Joyce" In: Zeitschrift f?r die
gesamte Staatswissenschaft. - T?bingen, 1844. - 108 (1952), S. 690 -
702.

As you could see, the journal is available for sale, but you might
have to buy a collection of several volumes, and the price is not very
attractive:

ABE Books:
<http://dogbert.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=115669558>
<http://dogbert.abebooks.com/servlet/BookDetailsPL?bi=247284578>

Book Finder (with the same source):
<http://www.bookfinder.com/search/?ac=sl&st=sl&qi=i4rvDLHzxlKh3u1jtHqGKb4C1Jc_7234185888_2:10:73>

Periodicals, as mentioned by Freddie:
<http://www.periodicals.com/stock_g%5Cz/ttl01335.html>

And, of course, you could try inter-library loan, as I suggested:

Cambridge:
<http://www.econ.cam.ac.uk/marshlib/journals/listings/z/z2.html>

British Library
<http://blpc.bl.uk/>
(I am copying the catalogue details, as it is a bit complicated.
However, it is result no. 14, if you search for "Zeitschrift f?r die
gesamte Staatswissenschaft" :
Title: ZEITSCHRIFT FUR DIE GESAMTE STAATSWISSENSCHAFT
[...]
Shelfmark:  9462.990000
Holdings - DSC: Held but not currently received
Holdings - HSS:  VOL. 1, 1844- 141, 1985 *A=?. PP.1423.HA. Held but
not currently received
Notes - Cross references: CONTD AS 5007.506 BD. 142, 1986- SEE ALSO CARD INDEX

The database IBSS has the journal, but it is not clear if they have
full text articles from 1952:
<http://www.lse.ac.uk/collections/IBSS/about/Default.htm>

This database could come in very handy, when looking for German stuff:
GBV P/7
<http://p7.gbv.de:4242/iPort?previous=28&sessionid=010654461480&request=databases>

If none of this works, please let me know, I'll photocopy it in my
library and find the way to deliver it to you (*free pizza not
included, even if it takes more than 30 minutes...)

If Scriptor is the King and Politicalguru is the Queen...

May I be the Jester? :-D

Well, I don't think I will be able to claim the crown. Nevertheless, I
will keep on searching - maybe I have not dopped off the line to the
throne yet...

Sorry, Pinky ...

As an acclaimed Goddess, I am afraid that you are ineligible for the
role of Jester.

What would your public think?

Given that it is:
(1) only 12 pages
(2) available in libraries, but very expensive to buy,

I suggest that you'll use an Interlibrary loan, or even a copying service.

Well, this "Zeitschrift für die ..." seems to be available in some
British libraries.

Her Majesty will certainly mention the UK libraries in her answer.

Here are some bibliographical details:

This page could be interesting ("request a quotation for part sets,
single volumes and issues of this title"):

Bryan, just in case you are interested to read another article on
Joyce written by Ridder: "Joyce-Fall", published in "Wörterbuch des
Völkerrechts", Vol. 2, 1961, p. 175-177.

In this article (on the trial of Joyce and international law) Ridder
refers to publications by J. W. Hall (no year), H. Lauterpacht (1947)
and G. L. Williams (1948).

Hi, Freddy

Many thanks for the further references.

I already have a copy of J W Hall's book 'The Trial of William Joyce'
published in 1946 (I think). Certainly very soon after his execution
in January 1946.

The other references were new to me and I will explore further.

Warmest regards

Bryan

Hi, Everyone

Just for the record, I have now got a copy of the Article.

It has just been sent to me by a Kindly Soul who lives in Germany.

Many thanks to everyone and especially to the Kindly Soul.

All the Best
