It seems that the built-in menus in Microsoft Access 2000 are gone. Not just disabled in a particular project--I mean they don't show up even when starting up Microsoft Access without opening anything. I'm talking about "File," "Edit," etc. Where are they and how do I get them back? And why is this such a seemingly super-secret problem that I can't find reference to it in ANY Microsoft support material? |

Press Shift on while your starting up. I can't find the setting for stopping this but its a some startup security setting. Keys Description -------------------------------------------------------------------- CTRL+BREAK Stops execution of code or macro SHIFT Prevents execution of an AutoExec macro and bypasses database Startup properties when opening a database ALT+F1 (F11) Displays the Database window ALT+F2 (F12) Displays the Save As dialog box SHIFT+F12 Saves a database object (ALT+SHIFT+F2) CTRL+G Displays the Debug window CTRL+N Opens a new database CTRL+ENTER Opens an object in Design view (ALT+D) CTRL+F11 Toggles custom and built-in menu bars |

joebob: The Shift key thingie only works when opening a database. As I said, this is immediately upon starting up Access, without opening a database. |

Try right clicking on the the menu bar (the grey areas at the top). Then select "Customize". Select the "Toolbars" tab. You should be able to see the "Menu Bar" option there. Should I be mistaken, your "Menu Bar" option is not checked. Check it the box next to the "Menu Bar" option and you should be able to see your menu bar. |

working on an IT help desk ive seen this question many times, here is the USUAL problem and solution. if it helps you, consider it a freebie -the only payment i ask is that u do something nice for someone today. when you open an access database by clicking on a shortcut on your desktop or in explorer, your system attempts to open it using the last used version of ms access - so if u last opened an ACCESS RUNTIME (cut down version of access) database,(this can happen in all kinds of ways without your knowledge) all your future attempts to open databases through shortcuts/desktop/explorer will default to try and open in runtime (which has no menu bars) there is no fix that i know of. its dumbass senseless microsoft crap which you have to work around. the way round this is to open ms access first from your start menu, and then open ur database via file/open command or alternatively edit your shortcut icon properties to include the path to the correct (full) version of access (eg. this mite mean your shortcut path looks something like "c:\program files\microsoft\office\msaccess97\access.exe" "c:\my documents\mydbase.mdb" i hope this helps. and oh,here is my "nice thing for someone else for the day"... check out this guys website he's a friend of mine looking for employment in the states: http://placement.adambeirne.com the problem will reocurr until you either settle down to having only one version of access installed, or until you edit ALL your links to databases to include the full path to the exe - and remember to do this for all future shortcuts. |

Hi, I recently had a similar problem. I accidentally delete the menu bar in access thru vba. It was solved with the following code: CommandBars("Menu Bar").Enabled = True CommandBars("Menu Bar").Reset hope this helps |
