By the late 19th Century, Europeans and Western Civilization dominated
most of the globe.  How do you account for the surprising rise of
Western Civilation?  Please answer as thorough as possible, this is a
question for a final in a class titled "Identity of the West".

My little brother has come to me for help w/his class, and I told him
to leave the  question with me so I could gather some info and get
back to him on it.  I do not plan on giving him an answer, I just want
a basis so I can help him find an answer that he already knows.  As
you can see from my email address, I'm a mortgage banker now.

Jared Diamond has written a book that ascribes the dominance of
European civilization in "Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human
Societies."  It's a fascinating read.  Amazon's a good place to
