I'm using Outlook 97 on Windows NT. Lately I've noticed that contacts
I know were in my file no longer exist. I have verified that there
are no filters in place. What could be causing my contacts to
disappear and is there anything I can do to correct the problem.

Auto Archive is set to on. Are old contacts being archived due to
this? If so, can I retrieve archived data?

If you have auto archive set to on and it is archiving your contacts
they can be found in archive.pst attach the file to your current
profile , if it isn't already there , open the pst file and either
copy or drag them back (and don't forget to turn off auto archive on
your contacts
