I would like to know whether the following symptoms could be a normal
consequence of fasting, or whether they would not occur in a normal
subject but only in a person with some medical condition. The answer
must include some way to verify its reliability, such as a reference
to a reputable source.
I tried fasting, on water and some fruit juice, for three days. I am
female and in my early twenties. After
thirty-three hours I had tingling in my face (off and on, different
parts at different times). Later, the ulnar nerve region of both
hands became numb and tingling. (I had recurrent paresthesias in the
ulnar nerve region some years ago, perhaps from typing, but it has
been a while since it was this bad.) On the third day, my limbs began
falling asleep more easily than usual. For example, my leg would fall
asleep if I sat with it crossed over my other leg (both legs dangling
from a chair) for literally a minute. At this point I began eating,
and the next day my symptoms were already maybe 90% better. |
