We have a website that, when searching for the backlinks in Google,
shows only 6 inbound links. Now I am aware that Google only shows
backlinks with a PR4 or more, but when I went to AllTheWeb and did the
backlink search there, we have more than 10,000 incoming links. The
problem is, however, that when I looked at some of those pages, they
had PRs of 5, 6 and even 7, yet they are not shown in the Google
backlinks query.
The question is why Google would not list inbound links even though
they have high PR and are stable within the Google index?
I suppose a bit more background information may help. Previously, we
had 4 domains, some with the same content, some redirecting to our
main domain. We fixed up this mess by implementing a 301 redirect so
that now only our main domain is in Google, and the others have been
removed. This 301 redirect has only been in place for the past two weeks.
Could it be that the way we had our web sites prior to the DNS
redirect has some bearing on the way Google displays our backlinks?
Have we incurred a penalty from having those other domains previously,
and this affects our backlinks and PR?
We currently have a PR4, but with all the backlinks that we have (many
with PR5 and PR6), we should definitely have a better PR. Is someone
able to shed some light on any penalties we may have incurred, any
possible solutions or courses of action that we need to take? |
