Where can I get MP3 music that is high quality, and organized? Morpheus and
Audiogalaxy are both mixed in quality and the music doesn't have consistent
labeling. And I just want to download everything and sort later (so again
Morpheus and Audiogalaxy take too long to pick one file at a time).

Hi there,

I have found an MP3 sharing program named "Soulseek".

Here is a list of it's features:

- Private messaging capabilities with both online and offline users.
- Folder based file-sharing, which allows for more convenient browsing
and downloading.
- Fine-grained control over file-sharing, with the ability to restrict
access to a select list of users, as well as the ability to disallow
access to specific users.
- Fine-grained transfer queue management, with the ability to restrict
the number of uploads and downloads per-user and in total.
- File searching with users in room or in user list.
- Wishlist that takes search patterns for easy automatic notification
when certain files become shared.
- A generic personalized recommendation system.

I have found this program to be excellent. You can browse users files,
right click on their folder and download the whole folder or simply
highlight files you want and download them.

You mentioned you wanted high quality files. Once you browse users
files it will let you know what bitrate and length the files are, also
the file size.

You were needing organised files, well Soulseek organises the files
into folders making it easy to navigate around.

You can download Soulseek from http://www.soulseek.org/download.html

I hope this is what you were looking for.

Enjoy!

This is not organized, but just a shortcut for all the files in a folder.

I tried it, and it is no better than Morpheus or Audiogalaxy.

If you're willing to pay for it, you can try eMusic (www.emusic.com). For $10-
$15 per month, you get unlimited downloads and guaranteed quality. Not sure
what the interface is like, because I'm a cheap SOB who'd rather wade through
Audiogalaxy ;-)

At least using kazaa (www.kazaalite.com has no spyware involved), you
can see the bitrate of an mp3 before you download it. It's also the
best p2p file sharing program I've ever seen under Windows.

Just check you have set the LimitBitrate Flag to 0 in the registry
(Run regedit, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Kazaa and set
LimitBitrate to 0.

Try using Audiogalaxy Query Tool. It is a interface between
Audiogalaxy and allmusic.com and it allows you to query automatically
whole albums. You may also set minimum quality for the desired mp3s.
You may find it here:

Kazaa, KazaaLite, Grokster, and a few other programs are like the old
version of Morpheus, in that they use the same FastTrak (Track?)
network, and so they will be indeed one file at a time, though most
provide an option to browse by user.

If you have some stuff to share, you might want to try Direct Connect
from http://www.neo-modus.com (or the alternative, but sometimes
banned, open-source version that's a bit neater, DC++ at
http://dcplusplus.sourceforge.net ). It's a little complex to get
going, but it's a nifty thing once you have some stuff and connect to
big hubs, you can find so much out there and it's easy to find
complete albums, often also at high or your choice of bitrates.

If you get a $10 account to http://forums.somethingawful.com , you
will be able to access a messageboard with thousands of people to get
opinions or answers to anything you need, and it also contains a forum
called NMP3s, which stands for No MP3s... the rules are strictly not
enforced, and you can find some nice huge FTP sites.

That's about all I have to add--I've never needed any more.

How about usenet? The alt.binaries.sounds.mp3 hierarchy is fairly
well-maintained, decently sorted (the 1950s, 1960s etc. decade groups,
dance, jazz, gothic-industrial, bootlegs, etc. groups), and most
posters post their own rips, so quality is decent. Most new rips are
encoded with LAME --r3mix or with one of the new VBR presets.

Get usenet access from your ISP (most ISPs have a news server for
their users to access, of varying quality), or sign up for a free
account from www.teranews.com, or get a paid account from
www.supernews.com, www.newsguy.com, or www.giganews.com.

Most people who like music own a substantial CD collection. Why not
start by converting your CD collection to MP3? That way you can
control the quality and the organization.

WinMX is a great (free) p2p program that includes no spyware or
advertising. The service is fast, reliable and has very few bugs.
The queueing and library browsing functions allow for complete albums
or all works under an artist name to be queued. I highly recommend.
