Do you know of the city it took place in?

Well at least you know the precise year when it happened. You could
look up the news story in any library newspaper archive. If there is a
university library archive, you can most likely go through the
microflim. However from personal experience, I can tell you it might
be a lenghty process.

There is an easier way, find out if any of the newspapers have updated
their records. Life would be much easier if they have a digital copy
of the archive. Sometimes some newspapers sell such copies or give you
online access to such a database.

Another angle which really helped me. Do you know of any people who
were involved when the incident happened? Any names from people in the
hospital or a social worker? Things like that, if they remember
anything at all, can really help you to narrow down your search.

Good luck!

I do believe the accident took place either in Chicago or Norridge. I
can recall that I was in a police car instead of an ambulance, and the
only names that I know who where involved where relatives. I do recall
there was an oriental resturant next to the apt building, no idea to
what that was called.

If it's as far back as 1982, I suspect your answer is going to lie in
print resources only. Most of the databases don't go back that far. A
large public library or academic library should have national
newspaper indexes--if it happened in Chicago. From there as ashlynn-ga
suggested, you could get to the microfilm.

Failing that, you could try contacting a library in Norridge or Chicago.
