Bryan, First, do pass my best wishes on to Daisy (wishing a dog, Happy Birthday ? am I going mad?) Before recommending a present, I thought I would do some research on Daisy and her likes and dislikes, and how she is regarded by her owner. Clearly, she likes most things that dogs enjoy: good food, going for walks, and most importantly it would seem, chasing cats. "There are lots of cats around where I live but Daisy, my Yorkshire Terrier, seems to keep them at bay." http://www.answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=222715 "Daisy likes cats ... she had one for her dinner last night." http://www.answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=208334 She may be a little short in stature, but she makes it up in good breeding. "However, being blessed with 'a pedigree' - even if nothing else - she also has an official Kennel Club Name." http://www.answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=188106 Despite her advancing years, she is busy working as a researcher and her numeracy skills are still intact. "She does most of my research for me, while Missy, Ace, Pinky & the rest of the crew are still sleeping." http://www.answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=183584 "...according to Daisy, your figures only add up to 715." http://www.answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=234933 But, all is not well. I think at times she may suffer from lack of self-confidence. She needs the occasion boost and encouragement from her owner, far too often we researchers read some quite disparaging remarks about poor Daisy. "Daisy (being lazy)" http://www.answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=330841 "I should explain that Daisy is a Yorkshire Terrier and is distinctly lacking in computer skills." http://www.answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=256045 "She's a Yorkshire Terrier and decidedly not very bright." http://www.answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=255816 "Daisy can't find it now that I want to refer to it." "I also want to show Daisy how stupid she is." http://www.answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=247321 Even her personal habits are under attack. "...she makes disgusting noises when eating her meals and she never puts a paw in front of her mouth when she yawns." http://www.answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=175517 Finally, she?s going to receive one of the worst presents I can ever think of giving to a fine, pedigree dog ? a Slide Scanner. It?s like giving your wife a Scaletrix for her wedding anniversary (mine was very upset on her 23rd anniversary). "It's Daisy's birthday next month and I am going to surprise her by giving her a Slide Scanner." http://www.answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=330841 So, I think you should boost her esteem, give her a little praise, apologize for your insults, and then buy her a special coat to wear on her outings with you. Have a look at http://www.footballfangs.com/Content/t-shirts/t-shirtsA.asp There is a fine range of outdoor clothing for dogs. I haven?t been able to establish which sport she likes, but I am sure that being a Yorkshire Terrier, she would love to wear a Wigan Rugby League shirt. Or why not have a coat with the a special slogan on it: "Daisy is the best" "Daisy loves GA" "Daisy is 14 years young today". The slogans are endless ? limited only by my imagination ? that?s why there?s only three. Finally, once you have purchased the coat, take her photograph and send it to this web site and make her day! http://www.footballfangs.com/Content/readerswives/index.asp Regards answerfinder-ga (All quotes have been taken out of context and twisted to suit my answer) Search strategy "presents for dogs" ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=%22presents+for+dogs%22 probonopublico daisy (search in Google Answers) http://www.answers.google.com/answers/search?q=probonopublico+daisy&qtype=all&num=10&start=0 |

Brilliant, Answerfinder You just get better and better ... Except for your recommendation of a Wigan Rugby League shirt for a YORKSHIRE Terrier. The only football club that Daisy has ever supported is Oldham Athletic and that's soccer! Yes, I know that Oldham, like Wigan, is in Lancashire but that's the team she supports. However, I still think that she might prefer a Slide Scanner and she is now very impressed by the Nikon. All the Best Bryan |

You spotted my deliberate mistake. I'm sure Daisy's heckles rose at that. Thanks for the tip. answerfinder-ga |

I would offer to bake Miss Daisy a catfish cake for her birthday, but if she's a dog who has everything, I guess she's already got one. Ah, well. Nobody ever has too many catfish cakes, eh? |

"Daisy likes cats ... she had one for her dinner last night." May I suggest that you buy Daisy some cat-shaped doggy biscuits? I am anxiously awaiting Daisy's birthday picture.... Happy Birthday Daisy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Steph53 |

There is a rather annoying commercial running in Oregon, which shows a sweet, grey-haired, delusional "aunt" having a birthday party for her poodle. Her nephew wins great favors by giving lottery tickets as presents. But then, maybe you fellows across the pond are wise enough not to have state-sponsored gambling??? Kriswrite |

Considering Daisy is much older(72): http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/age.htm Then I recommend some pills for her arthritis (it's inevitable), a new pillow to sleep on (they do a lot of that), and a warm fireplace to sleep by. Or one of these gifts: http://images.google.com/images?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=yorkshire+terrier+gift Hope this helps! Rob |

Well I've now got a 14-year-old Daisy. And my thanks to everyone for their good wishes & great ideas. Yes, Kristina, we do have a State Lottery in the UK. It's been around for about 10 years now and, believe it or not, I've found ONE method of guaranteeing that you not to lose and another method of greatly increasing the chances of winning the jackpot. Yes, Rob, Dogs (as well as humans) become increasingly susceptible to arthritis as they grow older but, fortunately, Daisy has recovered from her earlier problems: http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=339259 |

My dogs Alfie, Bambi, and Fozzie would like to wish Daisy a very happy birthday, and they say that they will be glad to help clean the floor if any birthday cake should fall from the table. My doggies are such party animals. |

I bet she'd love a date with a seagull. Dinner out at Hove's finest? Why don't you spring for the tab and throw in a nice bottle of champagne? You could even arrange for her to have her hair done beforehand and suit her out with a pink velvet bow. The seagull is on his own. With my compliments to Daisy, and a wish for many happy returns, Tryxie |

Daisy has asked me to send her thanks to Pinky, Tryxie, Alfie, Bambi. Fozzie and Everybody Else for their good wishes. Sadly, she is not up to using the keyboard herself this morning, because she had too much to drink last night and she had to be helped into bed by Sublime2 the Seagull (not by me, I hasten to add). I guess that's what happens to old ladies who overdo the partying. |
