Hi, Jack1020-ga!
Fabric designing is a special talent! It must take a special type
of imagination only given to a select few! I hope I can help you find
some places to start in your quest for work, if that is what you
desire.
The first place I would visit is the website of the Textile
Institute located at
http://www.ivillage.co.uk/workcareer/frame/1,10118,162506,00.html?artURL=http://www.texi.org
Although the Institute is based in the UK, they have established a
recruiting agency that, due to their international membership, states
that they can place candidates in any location. Further, their
web site attracts over 2500 'hits' per month and all areas of
textiles are covered from designers to technologists. All levels of
personnel advertise themselves and include everybody from new
graduates to experienced managers. Go to the tabs on the left of the
website for their various services. Annual membership costs $149USD
and will give you access to the jobs database.
Secondly, you can go to the Register of Apparel and Textile
Designers located at
http://www.ivillage.co.uk/workcareer/frame/1,10118,162506,00.html?artURL=http://www.cyberscrybe.co.uk/fashionweb/register/link.html
. The agency is based in England, and matches designers with projects
according to their specialty. The Register is designed to bring
talented British designers together with retailers and wholesalers
throughout the world. However, no matter where you live, I would
imagine you could work out an arrangement to get your own resume on
file, or ask if they have a sister-site in your own country.

You can also try the Institute of Textile Technologys online job
and resume listing service. Go to their website at
http://www.itt.edu/About/, and click on the link near the bottom of
the page for online job and resume listing service. This will bring
you to the next page, which has links for finding a job or listing a
resume. While not an actual recruiting service, it should give you an
idea of what is available. Plus, posting your resume might get some
amazing results!
ApparelSearch at http://apparelsearch.com might be worth
navigating. Enter the site, click on the employment link on the top
right on the next page, and then go from there. I noticed one job
posted on 7/10/2002 for a textile/fabric designer, which only you can
determine might be something of interest.
Lastly, there is no better way to market yourself than contacting
companies which produce the types of fabrics and products which match
your interests and talents. Talk to people, send samples and
portfolios of your work, and get the word out! I have found that to be
the best way to market my own business, which, incidentally, is very
different than yours!
Keep seeking and you will find the right match for you!
