Easy-to-Build Treehouse
A structure you can build with your kids in a weekend
by David and Jeanie Stiles
Here are the instructions for the support or base of the treehouse:
SUPPORT BEAMS
?Hold one end of a 2x8 beam up against one of the trees and mark in
the center of the beam where the lag screw should go. Allow 5" to 6"
of the end of the beam to extend beyond the tree. Drill a 1/2"
diameter hole through the beam. Hold the beam against the tree and
mark through the hole into the center of the tree. Remove the beam and
drill a 3/8" diameter pilot hole 2" into the tree.
Using a socket wrench, screw a 4" long 1/2" diameter lag bolt (and
washer through the beam and into the tree.
Next swing the other end of the beam up. Make sure it is level and
hold it in place with 2x4 props while you repeat step one. Repeat the
same steps with the other two beams making sure that they are all
level.?

?The clamp pictured here holds 2, (side-by-side) 2x10's which is the
main support for the house. In heavy winds, the beam can slide thru
the clamp and still stay where it needs to be.?

Tree Houses You Can Actually Build : A Weekend Project Book
by David Stiles (Author), Jeanie Trusty Stiles
?In Tree Houses You Can Actually Build, they explain basic building
procedures through clear, simple instructions and non-technical line
drawings that illustrate every step of the project, from the earliest
sketches to the final cedar shingle. The authors outline five basic
designs that can be adapted to virtually any set of conditions, and
throughout the book, they emphasize safety for both adults and
children. In addition to line drawings, the book contains a section of
full-color photographs highlighting a variety of tree house projects,
plus helpful building tips based on interviews with their owners.?
