Question ID: 34297
I am thinking about moving down to Argentina (Cordoba or Buenas Aires)
in Aug or so.
I haved lived in Spain and Chile and speak semi fluent spanish. I am
wondering about a few things:

1. What would rent cost (approx US$) for a 1 or 2 bedroom place in
nice areas of either of these two cities?

2. Considering the current situation in Argentina, what are some job
options for someone with a BA/MBA, sales and internet experience?

3. Im thinking of setting up a business to import Argentine products
to the US. Is there a specific website with more information on this?

Thanks,
Matt

Hi mateo,

I am in a similar situation to you as I am an Englishman living in
Brazil so I think I can pass on some advice, but first could you
clarify a couple of points.

What will your residential status be in Argentina ie. will you have a
permanent residents visa, temporary residents visa, tourist visa
etc….?
This will make a big difference to your employment opportunities and
to pretty much anything else you want to do on a permanent basis ie.
live there, or set up your own company.
Will your proposed company be based in Argentina or the US ?

Thanks for the clarification

Hi !! mateo, thanks for ask Google Answers.

I live in Buenos Aires, Argentina so I think I am in a good position
to help you. I will try to answer you.

1- BUENOS AIRES CITY:

The best option for you is to rent an 1 or 2 bedrooms apartment in a
relative expensive neighborhood. This is because the security is
better in these areas.
The rent cost in US$ for a 1 or 2 bedroom place depends on the
districts of the city where the apartment is located. The best
districts are Recoleta, Barrio Norte, Palermo and Belgrano. Other good
choices are Saavedra, Villa Urquiza and Nuñez.
You can find prices starting at U$100 to U$300, but I think you must
look for a furnished one. For example I just found an furnished 1BR
apartment in very good condition which rental cost is U$250 ($1000).
I found it at "Win Win Propiedades"
http://www.win-win.com.ar/english%20frameset02.htm
winwin@house.com.ar

This web site has an spanish and english version, the spanish version
has more detailled information.

In Argentina usually the rents are taken for one year at least, so
you must take care to contract a temporary rent. If not, if you want
to leave Argentina in 3 months you must pay a complete year.

You can see more apartments and accommodations at:

"APART PLAZA BUENOS AIRES" (English Version)
http://www.apartplaza.com.ar/index.htm

"ArgenProp" (only in Spanish)
http://www.argenprop.com.ar/

"Clarin Clasificados - Inmuebles -" (only in Spanish)
http://www.inmuebles.clarin.com/HomeRubroInmuebles.jsp?id=1&idCat=1&idDescRubro=Casas+y+departamentos.

And two list of Real State sites in Buenos Aires from Yahoo!
Argentina:
"Inmobiliarias y Martilleros"

"Directorios" (try this)
http://ar.dir.yahoo.com/zonas_geograficas/paises/argentina/provincias/ciudad_de_buenos_aires/economia_y_empresas/productos_y_servicios_para_el_consumidor/inmobiliarias/Directorios/

CORDOBA CITY:

In Cordoba is more dificult to find online sources for Real State.
The rental cost here is cheaper than Buenos Aires costs. The prices
are between U$100 and U$200 for an 1 bedroom place.

You can consult at:
"Galicia Inmobiliaria" (only Spanish)
http://www.galiciaprop.com.ar/

There is a list of Real State Companies of Cordoba city taken from

You must consider Villa Carlos Paz city, this is a touristic city
placed near Cordoba city (30 km aprox.), and connected between if by a
highway.

2- Job Options:

Unfortunately the situation in Argentina gives you very few
opportunities of work.
This is a consequence of unemployment rate, that is over 20%. For one
offer of job, thousands will postulate.
You need a permit to work and a temporary residence aproved to work in
Argentina. To obtain that you must go to the embassy office in the
country where you are living.
If you have good contacts in a Company with branch in Argentina, you
will have better choices.

To find jobs in Argentina you can see the following sites:

"Enlaces Laborales"
http://www.enlaceslaborales.com/

"CompuTrabajo"

In all of the listed sites you must complete a Curriculum Vitae to
apply to the offer.

"Clasificados Clarin - Empleos -"
http://www.empleos.clarin.com/HomeCategoriaEmpleos.jsp

Here you can see the offers from the classifieds of the biggest
newspaper of the country: Diario Clarin.

All the websites are in Spanish.

Hi mateo!!

I will try, the first part of your question I think that I could
answer it, but the others are more difficult to me. Now I am going to
my job, but tonight I will start the research. Need two
clarifications:
Do you accept a partial answer? and Are you in Argentina actually?

Thanks for trust in me to research your questions.

1. Yes, I am in BsAs now..Im enjoying it.

2. Yes, I do accept partial answers. Im not sure if I ll will pay the
full $45 as this is for answering all the question, but the first part
is the most important to me, so it is valuable.

Let me know if you can answer the first part and I can pay for that.

Gracias y que te vayas bien
