Dear braggy-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question. DNA is a rather complicated subject, but it has been reduced
in technical terms to a much simpler explanation (thank goodness):

Here is a very fundamental explanation of what DNA does??exactly?.

Here is another fairly simple explanation:

The question was not what is DNA. But Why do cells contain DNA exactly
what is it used for?

I understood your question, but by examining what DNA "is" we discover
what it "does" (exactly). If you take another look at the articles
you'll see that:

"DNA tells your cells what proteins to make, and proteins are
necessary for your body to work."

"It [DNA] stores all the coded information that basically determines
what you look like and how your body functions."

So the question you asked has indeed been answered.
