Not sure if this is possible, but if I gave a sample image, could you
find the exact font that is used? I can find fonts very similar but
not the exact one. I can't find it anywhere, even though it was a font
I owned ages ago at some point.

Maybe. Can you provide us with a link to the sample image so we can
examine the font?

Clarification of Question by oneplay-ga on 08 May 2004 11:41 PDT
It was for a set of menu items, so the font size was 10 or 11px, so
its hard to compare properly.

A couple of fonts it was like were,

Myriad Pro
Optima
Gill Sans

None of them were right however.

Sorry I can't provide a better example, it will teach me to save photoshop files!

Thanks

Hello there,

Working my way through the font identification service on
identifont.com, the best matches I've found are in the "Morgan" series
of fonts. For example:

Morgan Sans Condensed Office
http://www.identifont.com/show?48K

Morgan Sans Condensed Lining
http://www.identifont.com/show?4GC

Morgan Sans Office
http://www.identifont.com/show?1L5

Morgan Sans Lining
http://www.identifont.com/show?489

Do you think the font might be any of those?

Nope, it's more of a rounded font I think, its very very similar to
the ones I listed but there are subtle differences.

Thanks for the help so far! This one was really getting on my nerves!

Hi again,

Without wishing to list every font in existence, Identifont.com has a
facility for saying what fonts are similar to others, have been
influenced by others, or have had an influence on others. As a result,
here are some other possibilities, in approximate order of likelihood
-- hopefully the font you're thinking of might be included in here,
but given that the sample is so small it's probably going to be the
case that only you will be sure whether I've found the font you've got
in mind! These fonts are similar to the ones you mentioned, anyway:

URW Classico
http://www.identifont.com/show?60C

Linotype Optima Nova
http://www.identifont.com/show?8T2

Zapf Humanist 601
http://www.identifont.com/show?22L

Humanist 521
http://www.identifont.com/show?279

Optima reportedly had an influence on the creation of:

Bitstream Chianti
http://www.identifont.com/show?28D

... and Gill Sans was itself influenced by:

ITC Johnston:
http://www.identifont.com/show?6T8

P22 London Underground
http://www.identifont.com/show?1YL

Last of all Gill Sans was reportedly an influence on:

Corinthian:
http://www.identifont.com/show?1W5

Ottomat:
http://www.identifont.com/show?1H8

Relay:
http://www.identifont.com/show?8O1

Tschichold:
http://www.identifont.com/show?5SK

Are any of those the font you were thinking of, or at least getting
closer to the correct one?

Still none of them are correct, I'm specifically talking about the g.

I don't know the technical term for it, but on my version, the g is
left open, whereas on the others the g is closed.

If it is still possible to search that's fine but I like URW Classico,
so if nothing else is found, I'll try it.

Thanks for your help so far!

Hi oneplay,

Please take a look at these three fonts:

Frutiger
http://www.identifont.com/show?LY

Frutiger Condensed
http://www.identifont.com/show?LZ

Humanist 777
http://www.identifont.com/show?27A

Are any of these the one you remember?

Some more excellent ones there from Rainbow, one of which might be the
font you had in mind! One other alternative (that myfonts.com confirms
is similar to Optima, but which satisfies the open-g requirement) is:

OL Radiant

Thanks again everyone,

Humanist and Fruitger seem to be the most likely, I'm not sure if is
actually the one I used but it looks so similar, it could very well be
it.

Thanks for all your help!

Hi oneplay,

I'm glad I was able to locate the fonts, which are, if not the exact
ones, very similar to the one you remember.
Would you like me to post my clarification as the official answer?

Regards,
Rainbow

Sure, it seems to be as close as I'm going to get, otherwise we'll be
looking forever.

Thanks to everyone.
