Im doing a major market research assessment on why Australians choose to fly Qantas and what type of image does Qantas convey (eg. via advertising campaigns) and does this affect why Australians choose to fly with Qantas. I have conducted questionnaires on the topic however I am finding it hard to find secondary data and statistics on Qantas itself. Can you help me? |

Surely, it is mainly about visibility? Everyone in Oz will know Qantas and its presence will be continually reinforced through national ad campaigns. Also, Qantas probably addresses the most popular routes used by the good people of Oz. |

Of international airlines serving Australia, Qantas dominates advertising-wise - especially because they are the most popular domestic airline. So I guess is it economy of scale, that they can advertise their domestic service, but that brand visibility boosts their international service. Also, consider that a first-time traveller, a first-time flyer, might be more inclined to trust the local airline. I'm a Kiwi, and I first flew with, and continue to fly with, Air NZ. |

Robert ... I never knew that you were a Kiwi! I suppose that you know what the English cricketers of Yesteryear said about NZ? They said that if they were shipwrecked 20 yards off the coast of NZ ... They would swim to Australia. |

The answer is safety. Australians are well aware that until fairly recently only Qantas and SwissAir( maybe one other) amongst the worlds major airlines that have been in the air many decades, were completely accident and death free,i.e not a single life lost, no severe injuries and no damage through accidents in flight to any plane. Then SwissAir lost one or two hundred lives and that left Qantas only. I travel Garuda- Indonesia. Safety record not that terrific but no major accidents for a long time and service is great. Busines class must rate as worlds best as they put me in old defunct first class cabin still operating as first class service but paid as business class. Only 20 or so first class positions so have to be a frequent flyer I suspect to get a first class seat on b/class although no-one has adequately explained why they put me or any one else in first class. Pilots and air crew mostly muslim as are passengers so I also have in back of my mind that plane would be last to be targetted by Muslim extremists. I also |
