My dad has been using CARDBOX, the DOS version for hundreds of years, (well, nine actually)and has now emerged in the 21st century needing the same functionality and use but for Windows 98. He approached Cardbox (the Company) and they wanted 300 UK pounds. He had already had a few laughs that day watching an old Morecambe and Wise and was amazed that they were serious. Over to you folks. SAME use and functionality, to suit Win 98, but NOT at a comedians price. Thanks. Dave. |

I used CardBox a similar number of years ago ... from what I remember its a fairly simple flat-file system. I'd suggest looking at shareware as well as commercial software, but you could consider a package such as Ability Office, which at GBP 50 is a very reasonably-priced alternative to MS Office http://www.ability.com/sales/products/database.php?ln=uk It's also stocked occasionally by QVC www.qvcuk.com who offer a 30-day trial period on all purchases including software. It might be helpful if you can give some idea of what applications your father uses CardBox for, and whether he would wish to migrate existing data. Owain |
