Hello monks~ When someone says they are "falling for" someone, they mean they are beginning falling in love with them. Here is a Google cache (available for a limited time) showing the phrase used in this context: ://www.google.com/search?q=cache:U89ehFo4xEkJ:www.gurl.com/react/panel/dilemmas/0,,624078,00.html+%22falling+for+him%22&hl=en&ie=UTF-8 (Gurl Connect, "Advice") The phrase "falling for" can also mean other things. You can "fall for" something other than a person, for example. See this story: http://www.riverdeep.net/current/2000/09/091100_fallsports.jhtml (Riverdeep, "Falling for Sports"); it implies that folks are "falling for," or falling in love with, sports. Also, see this news story: http://management.silicon.com/itdirector/0,39024673,39120314,00.htm (Silicon.com, "Local businesses falling for domain-name scams"); here "falling for" means "believed in" or "believed authentic." What would you feel like if he just up and left? Usually the worse you feel when you think of this, the stronger your feelings for him are. Falling for someone, in that context, means quite simply you are falling in love with them but that you are unwilling to say the words "I love you". That phrase is usually used to "test the water", to see if they are feeling the same without putting yourself at full emotional vulnerability. |
