I would like information about the death of Camilo Cienfuegos, a Comandante during the Cuban Revolution. It is claimed by some that his plane was shot down by a Cuban MiG, but others claim that he was simply the victim of bad weather. I would like sources and/or arguments for both if possible. Also, if possible, is it known where Cienfuegos?s remains may lie today? I know that he officially ?disappeared,? but is there any sort of speculation as to where? |

There is an account of the death/murder of Camilo Cienfuegos in 'My Granny Made Me An Anarchist' by Stuart Christie. According to Captain Robeto Cardenas, commander of Camaguey Air Base, Fidel Castro - in the company of Raul Castro - shot Cienfuegos because he refused to countenance the execution of Comandante Huber Matos, and who was opposed to the sovietisation of the Cuban revolution. It was subsequently claimed Cienfuegos, a hero of the Revolution, died accidentally when his plane was shot down by mistake over the Bahia de Gloria by a Cuban air force pilot. |
