Robert Fisk in Baghdad - 15 April 2003 reported on the burning of the
Library of Korans in the Ministry of Religion,
http://www.robert-fisk.com/articles231.htm
Are there corroborating reports of this?
Did any ancient, hand-written copies of the Koran burn in this fire?
If so, was the copy hand-written by the founder of the Shiite sect burned?

Dear p0ps-ga;

I found a number of references to the fire independent of the Fisk
report that does seem to corroborate the incident. In this example, a
cached message from a poster to a mailing list refers to an Al-Jazeera
report that contained, among other things, a partial list of destroyed
items not mentioned by Fisk. It is also worth mentioning that this
particular statement, which again was not made by Fisk nor found in
his report, can easily be found in a variety of sources and web sites:

?In addition to what is listed by Fisk below, an Al-Jazeera
documentary talks further of what was destroyed. Here are some
examples: In the museum that they burned, they burned the first
printing station, the beginnings of how to print the alphabet. The
first train. The first writings of Gilgamesh. The first discovery of
electricity. Hundreds of thousands of hand-written history books.
Hand-written copies of Al-Quran, and the writings of Al-Imam Ali and
Ibn Battatu.?

?A CULTURAL TRAGEDY FOR ALL PEOPLE?

The statement above and the list of destroyed items it contains,
according to this link:

The Destruction of Our Civilization:
Sam Hamod, Rania Masri, Al Jazeera and Robert Fisk

?is supposedly attributed to Dr. Rania Masri, a national board member
of both Peace Action and the Education for Peace in Iraq Center. She
can be reached at pmproj@progressive.org

Does this serve to corroborate the story independent of Mr. Fisk?
