Question ID: 343797
I would like information on a set of Paragon Bone China.(four peice
complete dinner/dessert setting) When was this edition made? Where
was it made? How was it made?(looks hand colored) From my estimation
it was from 1942. The peices are hand numbered. How much is a complete
set worth now? It was made by the Paragon China Company. The listing
on back is as follows: Paragon Fine Bone China, by appointment china
potters to her majesty QUEEN ELIZABETH. Made in England. REGP "ADAM".
It has a title of Adam, and was hand numbered. "217" on the Gravy
boat. It has a light blue border with a Citrus basket as a center
peice.

Dear Adam,

Thank you for accepting my comments as the answer to your question.

I am reposting the information below to make it official.

Brief History of Paragon

?In April 1933 Paragon was honoured by being granted a Warrant of
Appointment to Her Majesty the Queen (Mary). Royal Warrants may be
granted to people or to companies who regularly supply goods or
services to a particular member of the Royal family. Strict
regulations govern the warrant, which allows the grantee or his
company to use the legend 'By Appointment' and display the relevant
Royal Coat of Arms on products.?

?In 1938 the company was similarly honoured by the new Queen, now
Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother, and in turn, her daughter, Her
Majesty The Queen granted a Warrant of Appointment in 1955. A list of
the Royal Warrants of Appointment granted is shown below.?

Royal Warrants Of Appointment:

1933 - 1936 Her Majesty The Queen
1936 - 1953 Her Majesty Queen Mary, The Queen Mother
1954 - 1961 The Late Queen Mary

1938 - 1952 Her Majesty The Queen
1953 - 1960 (reissued in 1963) Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother

1955 - 1960 (reissued in 1963) Her Majesty The Queen (Elizabeth II)

This might interest you:

"Paragon did not register pattern names, just numbers. Because of
that, I'm not going to be able to name the pattern for you. The
English Registry or RD number is much like our patent numbers and it
usually registers the shapes to a particular company."

"However, additional information, enabling a better estimate of the
age of a piece of Paragon, is often available in the form of the
marked design registration number and/or the pattern number. No piece
could have been produced, either bearing a particular registration
number until after that number had been issued or, displaying a
particular pattern number until that number had been allocated and the
pattern introduced. Consequently, pattern numbers, as well as the
style of the backstamp, are important to the Paragon collector for
purposes of dating.

Paragon pattern numbers are the numbers in coloured enamel on the base
of pieces, hand written by the decorator or paintress before the final
firing stages in the production process. The colour is often the same
as one of those used at the hand finishing stage of the pattern. The
number comprises up to four digits and there are several series. All
series have a letter prefix with the exception of the first series.
Prefix letters include X, F, G, and A. Some numbers also include a
suffix of the form /1, /2, /3, etc. which describes the colourway when
several similar, but differently coloured, versions of a pattern were
available. Thus, 1186, 8559/1, X169, X3036/1, F43, F1296/2, G71,
G2524/2, A657/5 and A2857 are all examples of Star China and Paragon
pattern numbers."

I was curious of the worth. These are hand numbered. (The others have
no hand numbers). They are a family heirloom, and would not be sold.
I was more curious about the hand numbering, and the outlets (locale)
where these "hand numbered" were sold. (foreign country, US, UK,
Canada etc.) Sounds like I need to find a historian. Looks like much
of the archive of information is limited on this topic
