Question ID: 343969
How do i use UK made hair straighteners (of 240V) in the USA (who use
120V)? I went to the USA last year, and although I had an adapter
plug, it only fed half of the energy into the device so it didn't heat
up properly. I need a device to make sure that the 120V is converted
to 240V to heat the straighteners up to their full potential. My
hairdryer has a switch on it to convert 240V to 120V, but i have not
been able to find this feature on any hair straigteners.

You need an adapter ...

But do make sure that it can handle the current required by your hair straighteners.

thanks for that, but my straighteners are 160W and it says that these
adapters can only handle appliances up to 45W! are there ones
available for higher wattage?

I would have thought so but I can't find any.

They're mostly 110v > 240v and with smaller wattages than you require.
