How do i use UK made hair straighteners (of 240V) in the USA (who use 120V)? I went to the USA last year, and although I had an adapter plug, it only fed half of the energy into the device so it didn't heat up properly. I need a device to make sure that the 120V is converted to 240V to heat the straighteners up to their full potential. My hairdryer has a switch on it to convert 240V to 120V, but i have not been able to find this feature on any hair straigteners. |

You need an adapter ... http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=16085&item=2242705017 But do make sure that it can handle the current required by your hair straighteners. |

thanks for that, but my straighteners are 160W and it says that these adapters can only handle appliances up to 45W! are there ones available for higher wattage? |

I would have thought so but I can't find any. They're mostly 110v > 240v and with smaller wattages than you require. Sorry! |
