I am looking for electronic wristbands that can be worn by me and my
4-year-old autistic child at an amusement park -- that beep or vibrate
whenever we are a certain distance apart. He tends to run ahead, and
I want something that will physically remind him to stop and wait
without spending the entire day yelling at him myself. I do not want
a GPS system that simply tells me his location. Walkie talkies might
work, if they are small enough for him to wear without being
cumbersome, and sturdy enough to withstand the force of a boisterous
preschooler. Please give me some sites that have this kind of product
- if it exists.

Dear nkamom,

I have found a device that ist very similar to what you have in mind.
The key features are:

- There is a transmitter unit (usually carried by the child)
- There is a receiver unit (usually carried by the parent)
- As long as the child stays within 30 feet or 90 feet (the two preset
distances) from the parent, nothing happens; when the child leaves
that area, an alarm will sound on the receiver.

Since you would like your child to hear that alarm, you would have to
carry the transmitter and your child would have to carry the receiver,
of course. Unfortunately, the receiver unit is not attatched to a
wrist band.

Is that what you are looking for? If so, please let me know and I will
post an answer with information on how to buy this device.

Regards,
Scriptor

Yes, that is what I am looking for. I have been looking too and found
2 devices that might work. As you noted, the problem is if the adult
alarm sounds, the child is not alerted to a problem, (and where does
the adult start looking)? I found the "child guard monitor" at
http://www.parent-alert.com/ChildSafety.html and the "gotcha" at
http://www.spygear4u.com/product.asp?productid=604 and was about to
withdraw my question, but if you have another product, please post
answer. Also, I would be interested in any small wearable 2-way
radios so that I can talk to him.
Thanks.

Dear nkamom,

Here is the device I have found, the Kid Safe System distributed by
the company GPS Anywhere (despite the company name, the device is not
GPS-based as their other products):
http://www.gpsanywhere.com/kidSafe.php

The price for a set of 1 receiver and 3 transmitters is $99.95; you
can order direct from the ditributor.

I will also do additional research to see if I can find a two-way
radio set that might meet your requirements.

Best regards,
