About 40 years ago a guy set out to prove a fit man could run down a wild deer in a marathon chase due to chest capacity etc. Can you find the article of a man doing it and give me a rough computation of how long in time and distance it might take? I am trying to square this with accounts of men "overcoming beasts" in the Bible. Thankyou McIsencraft |

Some places have "deer runs" where men run down deer on foot. The only mention of one I could find on line was on this message board http://www.manitoulin-link.com/cgi-bin/manitoulink/messages2/796.html and http://www.manitoulin-link.com/cgi-bin/manitoulink/messages2/1135.html where the poster recomends wearing sturdy shoes and be able to run a 10 1/2 minute mile for 4 miles over uneven ground. |

Try "Running After Antelope" by Scott Carrier. This happens to be my favorite book. The writer spent a good deal of his life trying to run down what he described as the second-fastest land mammal in the world. I'm not sure if he's the person you were talking about. His argument wasn't about chest capacity; he said that since humans sweat all over (unlike other animals who perspire through their mouths -- think panting dogs), we keep our cool. And though antelope are faster, they'll eventually overheat and all we have to do is keep up with them until that happens. |

THE ABOVE RUNNING DEER COMMENTS ARE FANTASTIC!

Many thanks to the above 2 comments for getting me the special information I simply could not find. I think Google is really on to something with this paid search model. However the Google "censorship thing" written by others really is troubling. I hope it works out and again thanks to the helpful commenters. McIsencraft |
