I would like to know the number of research biologists in the world.
If you are able to break that down into Europe/USA/ROW all the better.

I'm sorry you got no answer. 30,000 USA 40,000 Europe (includes about
2/3 of the population of the former Soviet Union, 75,000 for rest of
world at the end of 2003. You can use my publication "Galactic
Solutions" as the source. If someone complains, too many or too few:
Adjust the definition. Presently employed with that job title. Hold a
4 year or greater college degree that reflects miminal (moderate)
qualifications for some jobs related to research biologist etc   Neil

According to the Biochemical Society there are 100,000 or so active
(research) biologists in the UK.
