Hello -

Thanks for the new question. Incidentally, should the need arise
again to reprice a question, you can simply click on "Edit Question
Parameters" and change the price. You can also state in the
clarification section that you'd like a specific researcher to answer
it.

If you require any clarification, please ask before rating this
answer. Thanks for your understanding.

The absolute "Cadillac" solution for your needs is offered by a
company called NewLeads. Their Survey Builder software running on a
TabletPC along with a magstripe or barcode reader offers a
sophisticated, pen-based mobile solution. Check it out here:

http://www.newleads.com/tabletpc.htm

The representative I talked to says that exhibitors will go to a show
with a carrying case that carries their TabletPC along with a few
different readers; this way they're prepared for pretty much any card
or barcode type thrown their way. The exhibitor attaches the
appropriate reader for the show and is ready to go. NewLeads says it
should be able to handle any trade show, as it will work with 1D, 2D,
the newer 2D barcodes and magstripe.

This setup is between $5,000 and $6,000, depending on whether you buy
a refurbished TabletPC or a brand new one. The Survey Builder
software is about $3200, with options for adding the magstripe reader
at $300.00 and the barcode scanner at $900.00.

They also offer their MobilePartner product:

http://www.newleads.com/products_mobilepartner.htm

The base price for the Mobile Partner Software is $2,500.00 - with
options for adding the Magstripe reader @ $600.

According to a rep, this product is "more for scanning people at
doors" and you would need to take notes using Palm grafitti;
downloading of data is done by using a Sync cradle.

The other offering is from a company called LeadWizard; their product
of the same name is PDA with custom software and a barcode/magstripe
reader attachment. It is limited to 2D barcodes and costs $1999 +
nominal shipping fee.

"their product of the same name is PDA with custom software..."

   should read

"their product of the same name is a PDA with custom software..."

Thanks for this response. Could you clarify whether the newleads
price of $5000 to $6000 is for everything -- that is, the software
plus various hardware options to make it toally useful; or just one
part of it.
(I am quite happy with the direction this is going, as I do not want
to get on a sales rep 'hit list' until I am reasonably confident the
solution is valid.)

Marbuck -

Thanks for the rating + tip! Yes, the $5000-$6000 is for everything,
according to the rep. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thank you,

This is helpful. Yes, I could have found these answers myself but my
time is much better spent assigning this task!
