plagiarism but cannot find the source. i think i remember reading
this in some sort of email chain letter or something... can you help?
"Those of us in our forties grew up in a household where we can recall
when our family purchased their first color television set, when the
thought of television programming beyond midnight was unheard of, or
that most of us would have our own personal computer in the house.
The national anthem, followed by an Indian Head test pattern, was the
signal that you were well beyond your bedtime. Cable TV and personal
home computers with Internet access were not even part of fantasy
living, as both were unimaginable. Twenty-first century technology has
brought information access into almost every household in an
unprecedented level. As society, and the American society in
particular, progresses forward in an extraordinary speed, the pressure
to move along carries with it many burdens. The impact of our
changing society has affected our family structure and how we interact
with those closest to us.
Our childhoods consisted of neighborhood events such as baseball
games, games of tag, and just hanging around discussing life?s
promise. Today, families can go weeks and even months before
interacting with their neighbor. Children don?t play in neighborhood
pick up games; they have to be signed up in club leagues where the
right uniform is sometimes more important than sharing time together.
Parents push their offspring into every imaginable activity in the
name of fun and giving their children ?more than they had.? Which
also includes giving in to their every demand, creating mini
apartments within their bedrooms, with every conceivable entertainment
device available in the market. Including televisions, DVD players,
personal computers, stereos, video recorders and some with mini
refrigerators." |
