I am looking for a step-by-step explanation on how to drum lace a
tree's root ball for transplanting.
A picture is worth a thousand words, so I really need images or
diagrams that go along with the explanation.
Below is a link to a site that describes the process, but does not
show the image that the article references. Hopefully this will help
you understand what I am looking for.

Hi askip3,

Here you go - I was unable to find one, good, comprehensive website
but I think, taken as a whole, all of these websites provide you with
what you need to know to "B & B" your tree.

Transplanting Landscape Plants [illustrated]:

"That sounds like a lot of work and very confusing! You're right! It
took me about four months to learn how to ball and burlap
professionally when I started working for a nursery as a college
student. It's very hard work, frustrating at times, and every tree and
shrub is a bit different. I'd recommend that you hire someone
experienced at this art if it needs to be done, or have it moved with
a tree spade."

"The burlap must be removed from the top of the root ball to permit
aeration and watering, but can be left on the sides and bottom. The
earth will help decay the cloth, so root growth won't be hampered."

I hope this is what you are looking for. If you have any questions,
please post a clarification request before closing/rating my answer
and I will be glad to reply.

Thank you,
hummer
