Hello Don3838,

Many articles state that Baywatch is the most popular TV show around
the world.
See LurpDogg.com:
http://www.lurpdogg.com/lurpbits.htm
"Internationally, Baywatch is the most popular TV show in history."

What other popular shows are there these days?
Quote Washington Post - American Pop Penetrates Worldwide (by Paul
Farhi and Megan Rosenfeld)
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/inatl/longterm/mia/part1.htm
""ER," "Chicago Hope" and "NYPD Blue" are hits in West European
countries such as England, the Netherlands and Germany, buyers said.
(...) "Seinfeld" airs in many places, but not always in prime time."
(...) people around the world can't seem to get enough of "Buffy the
Vampire Slayer." (...) "The X-Files" airs in 60 countries."

Klaus Hallig is quoted in same article:
"In Central Europe, "they want cars to be exploded 14 stories high --
blow 'em up, kill 'em, stab 'em," said , who buys for Poland, Hungary,
the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Romania. He bought "Cannon,"
"Bonanza," "Miami Vice" and the "A-Team," as well as "Little House On
the Prairie" and "Highway to Heaven."

Many countries now deliver "home-grown" entertainment programs.
Compare that to "ten years ago, most shows [in German prime-time] were
'Dallas,' 'Dynasty' and 'Miami Vice.'"

A variety of shows is based on American ones, but localized for
specific markets, such as "Wheel of Fortune" or "The Price is Right"
[1].

Also, MTV delivers special programs for other, non-US countries.
(There are said to be 14 different 24-hour feeds.)

Star Trek: The Next Generation, and other Star Trek incarnations, are
very popular in many countries.
See Entertainment Zone - Daily News on The National Network (TNN):
http://www.ez-entertainment.net/news/daily_1_23_02.htm
"Anchored by some of the most popular series around the world,
including STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION, BAYWATCH (...)"

Also, reality TV is very popular the last years, even though shows
like "Big Brother" and "Survivor" originated in Europe [2].

For some in-depth background information, comparing different big
players worldwide, see:

While "Seinfeld", "Friends" and other comedy series are shown in many
countries, they're not always very popular, oftentimes suffering from
bad dubs.

Hope this helps!
