Question ID: 345089
I wish to do the following with my PocketPC WiFi connection. Please tell me how to:

1) Access my home network folders on other PCs
2) Synchronize Outlook with my WiFi enabled laptop on the network

I would like to be able to do the above using an access point when I
am home and without using accesspoint (ad hoc?) when I am travelling.

Thanks,
Amol

This can be done programmatically. And for programming reference you
could find it on http://www.pocketpcdn.com
There, you will find various techniques/methods for programming your
mobile devices in integrating them with your PC Desktop.

But, if you have no programming experience, I can help you out as I am
a mobile application programmer.

Let me know if you need me to write those small applications.

Molek

Dear Molek-Ga,

How much would you charge for the whole project?

Amol,

I have an ipaq 4155 myself and do these two things quite often.

First, do you already have a wireless access point on your network?
The linksys models are nice and can be had for under $100. The
product you would be looking for is called a wireless ap (access
point)/switch + router. These will let you plug computers directly
into them for 100mbit speeds, use wiresless devices like your pda, and
protect your computer by acting as a middle man between you and the
Internet.

So once you have your wireless network setup:

1) The easiest way to do this is with a program that runs on the
Pocket PC called Net Use. Here's a link:
http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/index.php?soft=504 . This will
make a folder on your ppc called "Network" in the root directory (so,
"\Network"). Inside this folder are shortcuts to your network shares
like those in My Network Places. Browsing these folders will be like
browsing them as if they were on a storage card. This should work
with all apps on the ppc.

2) This is done in Activesync. Connect with Activesync. In
Activesync, click Tools > Options. Check "Inbox". Click OK, and
you're done. Click sync again to sync immediately.

Adhoc is pretty easy too. On both the pc and pocket pc side, tell the
computer you want to use adhoc instead of infrastructure mode, give
everything the same SSID and, if you'd like, enable encryyption. If
at first you can't get adhoc to work, keep at it. I did it in a hotel
once with my laptop and ipaq and it took a little bit of re-applying
settings at first.

Also, http://www.pocketpcfreewares.com/en/ is the best ppc freeware
site I've found by far.
