Question ID: 345293
I have a list of about 450 people to invite to a wedding. Some of
these names came from me, some from my spouse, some from parents, etc.
Several "subsets" of names from this list need to be easily gotten
for shower invites, parties, etc. separate from the total wedding
list.
WHAT I WANT TO BE ABLE TO EASILY DO, (IN EXCEL OR WORDPERFECT, OR
POWERPOINT {ALL PROGRAMS I HAVE} OR ?, IF POSS)IS SEE MY ENTIRE LIST
ALPHABETICALLY.
AND/OR INSTANTLY RESHUFFLE TO SHOW ME CATEGORIES OF INVITEES. AND/OR
SUBGROUPS INVITED TO SPECIFIC EVENTS, ETC. SO SIMPLE, EASY TO FOLLOW
- A LA "____ FOR IDIOTS" INSTRUCTIONS, STEP BY STEP, ARE NEEDED HOW TO DO ALL OF
THAT AND MORE.
MORE: FOR EXAMPLE, IN EXCEL, I KNOW I CAN LIST THINGS
ALPHABETICALLY, AND, IN CELLS TO THE RIGHT OF EACH NAME INDICATE
CATEGORIES/SUB-GROUPS/ETC. LINKED TO THAT NAME (OR COUPLE) - BUT I'M
NOT SURE HOW TO SET EVEN THAT PROCESS UP, FOR SURE. BUT I DO NOT KNOW
IF NAMES ARE RESHUFFLED, IF ALL CELLS TO THE RIGHT WILL FOLLOW THAT
NAME.
 WHO CAN HELP???
  MANY THANKS.

Hello again, jred!

If you've got Excel and Powerpoint, I'm hoping that you have MS Access
as well. Is that the case?

Are you open to other options for managing your invitee list?

Regards,

Ace, We've GOT to stop meeting like this!
Actually, I may have to seek you out for all my queries, or as
back-up wedding planner, as you seem to be quite diligent and
thorough.
To answer your fol-up q's, YES, we do have MS Access, and are
equally uninformed as to how to use it. I'm not sure we ever have.
... But YES, we are ready to get good instructions on how to use it
for my purposes. Or we'd be willing to try something else. Ideally I
won't have to buy software for it.

Also - Since I'm going to so much trouble to get so many family,
friend addresses typed into such a spreadsheet, I'd also like to be
able to easily create mailing labels for all or subgroups of these
people. Can you please help me with that, too? Thanks!
John

You can use Rxcel as your data entry module and then export the data
to Access, or whatever for reporting purposes. This might be easier
for you than getting to grips with Access or whatever in the first
place.

Whichever way you go, you first need to decide the structure.

I would suggest:

Column 1: Sort Code
Column 2: Surname
Column 3: First Name
Column 4: Title
Column 5: Salutation
Column 6: Address - Line 1

Etc, etc.

In the Sort Code field you might type A for Your Family; B for Her Family, etc.

You can Sort your Data in Excel on any (or several) field(s),
Ascending or Descending.

Go on try it!

All the Best

It was a pleasure jred.

(Nobody's ever called me a 'Good Samaritan' before.)

But you haven't said whether or not I shall be getting an invite.
