Question ID: 345885
I'm looking for a solution to boost cell phone reception in the house.
I've already read everything at
http://answers.google.com/answers/threadview?id=34777 so any answers
shouldn't repeat that information. What I'm looking for is a little
bit different:

I want to find some kind of antenna device that will boost my
cellphone reception *without* requiring me to connect anything to my
cellphone directly, in a manner similar to the way a wireless hub can
allow an entire house to receive an internet connection. It's okay if
an antenna must be connected somewhere to the house, either inside or
outside, but I just don't want to have to connect anything to the
cellphone itself. An acceptable answer would point me to such a
product if it exists. Cost is also a consideration, as I would not
want to pay more than $100 for such a product, however, any product
that satisfies the above criteria up to $500 will be considered an
acceptable answer.

Mindwalker,

I have a few systems under 500.00 USD, which will allow you to boost
your cellular signal within your home, without being "tied down" with
cords.

Cell Antenna offers the CAE50-SOHO (Small Office Home Office) Repeater Package
For homes and 10 person offices. Covers up to 2500 SqFt.

"You install the antenna outside on the wall or on a roof edge with no
need to worry about where the tower is. Run the supplied 33' special
low loss cabling to the inside of the home, ceiling, or attic, and
mount the amplifier at a central location. The amplifier installs
vertically with the hardware supplied. It has 2 indicators, one for
'Power On' and one for "Fail". The 'Fail' light comes on if the
exterior antenna and the interior antennas are too close to each
other, in which case feedback will occur. (easy to adjust by moving
the antennas or unit)"
Price for this system $499.99 USD
http://www.cellantenna.com/repeater/CAE50new.htm

EagleID offers a DA4000SBR dual band cellular amplifier/repeater for
your home, office, or boat.
"An external 9db gain dual-band antenna receives the signal from the
cell site and the repeater re-sends this signal to your cell phone
through the included interior omni-directional antenna. The repeater
also receives your cell phone's signal, amplifies it, and sends it
back out through the external 9db gain dual band antenna at up to 3
watts of power (2 watts at 1900MHz). This unit will give you good
coverage inside metal and/or concrete buildings, large homes, or
wherever a good indoor cellular signal is needed. The DA4000SBR can be
used with any cell phone that operates using CDMA, TDMA, GSM (850 &
1900), GPRS, and AMPS. (Nextel phones do not work with this system.)"
Complete in-building system is $559 + S&H. I know this is above your
price range, however, while reading reviews, I have found it for less
at these stores.

$459.00 USD

370.00

And, last, but not least the 801102 - In Building 43dB Amp for 800MHz Cellular.
"This Amplifier-Repeater greatly improves signal strength inside a
building when using your cellular phone. It does this without a
physical connection to your phone, allowing you to walk freely during
a call. It even allows multiple phones to be used simultaneously."
This product is $379.95 USD

Here is the brochure for the product.

In addition, here is the website.

Google Search Used:
Cellular signal booster for in home
://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=Cellular%20signal%20booster%20for%20in%20home&btnG=Google+Search

I've read many reviews on the boosters as well, and for a "free range"
in home booster, there is nothing yet in the $100.00 USD price range.
As with all electronics, if you give it enough time, I'm sure it will
come down. You also may want to try sites such as
www.pricewatch.com
www.overstock.com
www.reviews.cnet.com

If this answer requires further explanation, please request
clarification before rating it, and I'll be happy to look into this
further.
