I mean I pager that we can use in our office confines that utilises

Yes, we have a system that utilized this standard. Much better than a
intercom. But We use phones to do this. Two possible sources are
netvision The NetVision® Phone also functions as a pager and a
walkie-talkie enabling simultaneous multi-party communications. A
single access point on a network can handle more than 25 phone
conversations. This unit is manufactured by symbol. Or you can also
check out http://www.spectralink.com/ they have solutions as well
with phone and textmessaging over wifi networks 80211.b we considered
both for our company, its all up to you what you would like to
impliment I cannot decide that for you. You can even go with voceras
unit which allows voice communications
http://www.vocera.com/index.htm?CFID=125292&CFTOKEN=13847212. It all
depends on what you need text of voice. This is a good recommendation
if you want a star trek like implementation.

That's great however out budget for the pagers is a max of 250 USD
each and we would look to purchase no more than 5 units. The Vocera
unit costs 40,000 USD's !!!

I have not heard of an 802.11 pager other than the Voceras 802.11
voice pager that geniusx has already mentioned.

If you really want a pager, why not get a real pager?? 900 MHz
In-house pagers are about $50 each and the paging terminal might be
$300. This should meet your budget, but not your 802.11 requirement.

I know it does not meet your budget constraint, but why not consider
low-end PDAs that has a CF 802.11 card in them like a Compaq iPAQ,
Casio Casiopeia, or HP Jornada. Then run a chat application. You
could possibly justify the extra computing power for access to a task
lisk, e-mails...

Most of the time, one has to call someone as a result of a page, so
why not include a phone in the pager? Sometimes your guys are outside
of your office so it might make sense to be able to send messages and
call them if necessary. T-Mobile has a selection of GSM phone /
802.11 combination phones like the Palm Tungsten C.
