I would like a list of fax machine numbers and/or email addresses to send
press releases to for:

All major UK newspapers (in particular the business & IT sections)
TV and radio stations (both national & local)
UK computing, IT, security and credit industry magazines.

Though the above is my main interest, a side interest is any QUALITY
advice on making your press releases count and getting free media
coverage.

Greetings! I am posting this as a clarification because, though it
answers your question, I believe you may have been looking for an
already-compiled list - not one which you would have to compile
yourself.

The fastest way to get a compiled list is to purchase it from a press
service. However, those can be expensive (and that is usually done by
a press service you would hire to write and distribute a release about
your product or service).

To compile your own list, I would suggest you visit
http://www.journalismnet.com and click on the Newspapers tab. There
you will find a few ways to locate newspapers in the world (and UK)
including a search service called Paperboy.

By entering "England" into the Paperboy search box, you will find this
list:
http://www.thepaperboy.com/partners/partner-countrysearch2.cfm?PartnerID=-694706369&PaperName=&PaperCity=&PaperCountry=England
and then you may visit each site for the contact info.

Another good search on the Journalismnet.com search page is below
paperboy listing and is ABZY. They offer a way to find the newspapers
as well.

As you will see from the http://www.journalismnet.com main page, you
may also search TV, Radio and Alternate News. Plus,
Journalismnet.com has its own list of UK papers:
http://www.journalismnet.com/papers/uk.htm

For an excellent (free) tutorial on how to write press releases, visit
http://www.canadaone.com/promote/pressrelease.html - they have a great
tutorial with template (also free). Basically, a press release is a
glorified text advertisement.

If this information proves to answer your question, please post below
that it does answer your query and I will repost this information as
an answer. I hope this information assists you in your quest.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I am looking for a pre-defined
list rather than spending the time compiling a list myself. Time is
precious!! I rather hoped one would be in existence in the public
domain somewhere.

I will raise the fee to US$10 if someone can provide me with that
complete list.

Media UK site
http://www.mediauk.com/
is what you need, it lists all you requested, and most of items has
fax/email info (except of radiostations), example
http://www.mediauk.com/directory/newspapers/detail.html?u=Guest-0&id=13722.
