Can you build code in the user interface where the lights are turn off
to include a button that would generate a file with an extension of
dch(discharged)
an send to a file called discharge. Any thing in that file than would
be e-mailed to a designated dept notifying that patient has been
discharged and the room needs to be cleaned

Hi, Amy:

Do we need to do the email function, or is that a side-effect of another process?

It might be clearer to the users to put the discharge buttons in a
separate context from the Order Fulfillment buttons. I'm thinking of
a "tabbed" form perhaps, in which the existing buttons are grouped
under one tab and the Discharge buttons would go on a visually
distinctive background to avoid confusion.

I would like it to be all inclusive if possible. Nurses do not like to
click to many times to get something done.

Thank you very much mathTalk one again.

Hi, Amy:

From the description of the use of this discharge file, notifying "a
designated dept" that the room needs to be cleaned, it occurs to me
that possibly the email only needs to mention the room number and
location.

Is there some additional information that is needed to prepare the
file? Is the nurse only responsible for clicking one button? If so,
where would the additional information be obtained?

If the email is to be sent from the Order Fulfillment program (I was
unclear if this was implied by the comment that nurses don't like to
click too many times), we need to investigate more about how emails
work in your environment. There may be a simple "sendmail" program
that we can execute.

I get the idea from your description that we would be appending more
and more information to the "discharge" file, and that at some point a
"batch" of such data would be sent to the department by email. Is
this the right idea?

regards, mathtalk-ga
