I published the following paper, see if it helps:
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in a battery-factory worker exposed to cadmium.
Int J Occup Environ Health. 2001 Apr-Jun;7(2):109-12.

You might be able to find a doctor who will certify that your uncle is
disabled but if you want to help him you need to look to the
detoxification programs. I know that many of the firemen who were
exposed to the toxins at the World Trade Center have recovered by
going thru a sauna detoxification program delineated in the book by L.
Ron Hubbard "Clear Body, Clear Mind". There is also another book
called "Detoxify or Die" by Dr. Sherry A. Rogers. Both programs
involve a sauna. The new technology on the scene is the infra-red
sauna that is discussed in Dr. Rogers book. A person would have to
invest their money and their wits to execute either of the programs.
If a person has the funds to afford a custom made program the L. Ron
Hubbard program is delivered by the Environmental Health Center in
Dallas. They have an in-patient program and if you can afford it
that's the place to go for immediate emergency treatment. Buying your
own little infrared sauna from High Tech Health and setting it up in a
spare room and following Dr. Rogers book is another way to go (a
$4,000 sauna would be good but you can find small, portable ones for
less). Getting any of these items paid for by insurance companies is
difficult. I looked for help from the medical profession for a long
time before I figured out I was on my own!!!
               --Wishing you both well
