Dear Snkrs,

The State of Georgia does not diffrentiate between the different
professions you've mentioned, and lables them all either under
"psychologists" or "therapists" (but see bellow for further
definitions).

Here are the requirements to become a licensed "Marriage and Family
Therapist", a "Professional Counselor" or a social worker in Georgia:
Georgia Composite Board of Professional Counselors, Social Workers,
and Marriage and Family Therapists
<http://www.sos.state.ga.us/plb/counselors/>

Another legal/licensing definition used by the State of Georgia is
"psychologist":
Licensure Information
<http://www.sos.state.ga.us/plb/psych/licensure_info.htm> and here is
the rest of the information on becoming a licensed psychologist:
Georgia State Board of Examiners of Psychologists
<http://www.sos.state.ga.us/plb/psych/>

A third therapist licensure is required if you intend to be an
occupational therapist (which is, of course, totally different from
the abovementioned, but I thought it is worth mentioning):
Georgia State Board of Occupational Therapy
<http://www.sos.state.ga.us/plb/ot/>

I hope this answered your question. Please contact me if you need
anything else before you rate this answer.

There are two exam given for Mental Health - the NCE and the NCMHCE.
Many states are going to the NCMHCE or requiring a counseling to take
both exams!
The NCMHCE is by far the more difficult exam of the two focusing on
experience and the use of the DSM-IV-TR. Without a working knowledge
of diagnosis, there is no way you will pass the NCMHCE. The NCE with
the exception of the statistics is far easier than the NCE. General
knowledge of the field is required without an extensive focus on
diagnosis. Still, neither exams are a cake walk and extensive study
needs to be done to pass either. Three months working at least an hour
a day are necessary to prepare for the exams. More info on the exams
can be found at: http://counselingexam.com with practice exams and
resources to help prepare for both exams.
