Question ID: 346859
I'm trying to back migrate a SOny pcv-RX360DS aio pcv-RX360DS system
from POS Win ME to Win 98se (going up to XP isn't a financial option
for a system this old). Sony says there are no motherboard, etc.
drivers for this system under win98. They advise continuing to use
crap-ola Win ME. There don't seem to be any markings on the MOBO
othetr than a faint INTEL logo on one of the chipset chips. Does
anybody know who really makes this mobo and what drivers will work for
it?

Sorry, didn't make it clear that the original hard drives got scragged
by viruses and I need to start from scratch.

In that case your question is:
How to migrate from windows Me to windows 98?
or
How to install Windows 98 from scratch?

If that is the question I think I can answer you, I only need this
clarification and also add any other thing that you think you need for
that.

Please also tell me if you tried to do the migration and failed, in
that case let me know what happened with the more detail that you
remember if possible.

I think that if your computer is working well with Windows Me, then
all the drivers will be right for Windows 98.

If you need the BIOS driver see the following page, but I donīt
recommend you to use it, your BIOS support Win Me then support Win 98.
"Sony Electronics PCV-RX360DS Driver"

If you think that this answer your question let me know and I will
post it in the answer and claim the prize.

Your sony vaio model uses the Intel i815e Motherboard. My bet is it is
an actual intel motherboard as apposed to another manufacturer. It
most likely has an integrated i82815 (i815 integrated) intel graphics
chip. This article will show you whether you have an i815e or
standard. http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1291&p=3. Youre
going to have to get your hands dirty in the case, I suggest getting a
flashlight to look around. Since intel is completely affiliated with
microsoft they have good support for their hardware and that should be
integrated in win98. Theres a good chance those drivers would work for
winme as well as win98. If not you need to go to device manager and
write or print all the hardware you have. Ie: modem video sound and
get those drivers off the internet. Give the intstall a try of win98
and see what devices are not installed than download those drivers.
THeres a good chance your board was manufactured for sony specifically
but you should be able to find drivers compatible for it. Heres
another link from intel for drivers for your board youre going to have
to identify it in the bios .
http://www.intel.com/support/motherboards/desktop/index.htm?iid=ipp_dlc_deskmb+support&
Hope this helps its going to be some work but you can get it to
function with win98se if you find out what board it is intel has all
the drivers on that page for all win operating system
