begg --

When I read your question, I was afraid that it would be hard, if not
impossible, to find a useful, concise answer for you because
psychotherapy is provided by practitioners with different levels of
professional training and because prices vary significantly, depending
on the level of training and geographic location.

Happily, I have been able to find exactly, I think, the kind of
information you are seeking from the website of a Bay Area therapist
who seems to be a very knowledgeable source of a lot of practical
information about psychotherapeutic options from the viewpoint of a
Bay Area service provider. Here is what Dr. Hutt has to say about
hourly rates:

"In the San Francisco bay area the fees range from, on average, $25.00
to $100.00 per hour. That means some fees are higher and some lower.
Typically, psychiatrist fees (per hour) will begin at $125.00, and top
out at about $285.00. Psychologist fees begin at around $90.00 and go
to somewhere around $150.00. Marriage, Family and Child Counselor fees
may slide up to around $100.00, depending upon the locale, and whether
or not the MFCC license holder possesses a Ph.D. or a Master's level
degree."

Search Strategy:

The Google search that led me to the information was this:

psychotherapy "per hour" "San Francisco"

I also conducted other searches with variations on these search terms
in order to determine whether there was inconsistent information
online (I found none, whether other sites with a similarly useful
range of information would turn up (they didn't).

I am confident that this is the information you are looking for, and I
was happy to be able to provide it to you promptly.

The first sentence of the third paragraph of the answer, seems out of
line with the rest of this paragraph. Perhaps the $25 is an error. It
surely is not an average as the wording seams to imply, unless we are
averaging in psychotherapy advice from bartenders and others neither
licenced nor trained formally. Neil
