I've been looking for a book to reread for years; however I don't know
the title or author. Here is the subject matter: It is a survival
story about a woman who was abandoned on an island in the Puget Sound
above Washington State by her cousin in the 1700's. She was allowed
to keep her servant and her fiance who was also thrown off the ship.
They survived through the winter and her only weapon against all the
wild animals was a blunderbuss. She bore a child and in the end she
was the only survivor and was eventually rescued. I believe the
author was a french name. Thanks for your help.

When did you first read this book?

Even a range of years (e.g., 1970-75, 1985-90, etc.) would help.

I'm pretty sure it was in the early 80's. A foggy recollection of the
author was "Du Marier" or something close -- then again, I might be
wrong. Thanks for attempting this.

Hi.

Ignore my question about when you read the book.

I think I've found it:

Marguerite de la Rogue: A Story of Survival (1977) by Elizabeth Boyer

"In 1542, a beautiful young French noblewoman, Marguerite de la Roque,
was marooned on an uninhabited island off the coast of Canada. With
her was her old nurse and the man Marguerite loved. When Marguerite
was at last rescued two years later, she was alone. Only she had
managed to survive."

Notice also that the woman on the cover of the book appears to be
wielding a blunderbuss:
