Question ID: 347566
My father worked for Atlas Powder Company for 40 years, starting at
the age of 14 years old and until he died at the age of 54. My mother
who is now 91 years of age, and is in good health, never recieved a
penny from their pension fund. My current boss, who has been in the
employment business for 33 years, said that my father should have been
paying into the pension fund and that my mother should be receiving
those benfits. How do I go about finding out what is due to my
mother?

moe354-ga,

Please have a look at this U.S. government document titled "Finding a
Lost Pension":

http://www.pbgc.gov/publications/lostpen.pdf

You'll probably find it contains all the information you need to begin
investigating the status of your father's pension...let us know if
this is the case.

But if you need anything beyond this document (combined with the
helpful company history information that was posted below in
comments), please let us know that as well.

Best of luck,

You could try searching the "Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation" at:
www.pbgc.gov.
Company or personal name searches are available.

Search strategy:
Google - Atlas Powder Company Pension
Clicked first link. PBGC

A little searching shows the following:

1960's
Atlas Powder Company changed its corporate name to Atlas Chemical
Industries and purchased The Stuart Company. The Stuart Company was
renamed Stuart Pharmaceuticals, and became a division of Atlas
Chemical Industries, with headquarters in Pasadena, California. An R&D
unit dedicated to new drug research was established in Wilmington as
part of Atlas? R&D facilities.

1972: ICI acquired Atlas Chemical Industries, and moved the U.S.
headquarters of ICI America from Stamford to the Fairfax campus in
Wilmington, Delaware. Headquarters of the Stuart Pharmaceuticals
Division was relocated from Pasadena to offices in Concord Plaza in
Wilmington, Delaware

It seems that ICI America might hold the pension responsibilities, but
I cannot explore that information further. Hopefully a real google
answerer can give you further information.
