Thurman Stewart Peterson was born in 1905. He was a mathematician who
held posts at the University of Michigan and the Institute for
Advanced Study. He obtained his PhD from Ohio State in 1930. I am
trying to find the year he died.

I can't positively confirm that either of these people are the correct
Thurman Peterson. I dug through a few records and found that he worked
with Ivan Niven at the University of Oregon. In the fall of 1938 he
was living in LA with his parents. He spent four years teaching at an
all girls school in Philadelphia (1934-1938). I hope this helps your
search. As far as I can tell, this is all the information I can
provide.

The only Thurman Peterson with a 1905 birth date on FamilySearch (
search for First Name: Thurman, Last Name: Peterson on
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp ) is the
one I have cited previously.  That does not necessarily mean he is the
right person, but it's a reasonably good indication.

Well, he's not in American Men & Women of Science. He published a
couple of textbooks into the 1980s. Wish I had more to report.
