At the age of 85, Edith Schaeffer is still alive and until recently,
she has resided in Rochester, Minnesota. She is still involved with
L'Abri Fellowship, which she co-founded with her late husband, Dr.
Francis Schaeffer. She now lives in Switzerland, near two of her
children.
The following are some excerpts of her activities and former whereabouts:
"Edith Schaeffer, with her late husband, Dr. Francis Schaeffer,
co-founded the well-known Christian community in Switzerland, L'Abri
Fellowship. The work of L'Abri began in the midst of their own young
family in 1955 in the village of Huemoz, Switzerland. Today L'Abri has
six branches around the world - one each in Switzerland, England,
Holland and Sweden and two in the United States."
"Born in 1918, of missionary parents while they were serving in China
with the China Inland Mission under Hudson Taylor, Edith is the author
of thirteen books on a variety of topics. A resident of Rochester,
Minnesota, she has four children, fifteen grandchildren and six great
grandchildren. She is active with L'Abri in Rochester, and is a
speaker and counselor in the United States and abroad."

retreat and evangelism center she and husband Francis Schaeffer (who
wrote the Foreword to Gini Andrews' Your Half of the Apple) founded in

"Edith Schaeffer, the child of missionaries with the China Inland
Mission, attended Beaver College in Germantown, Pennsylvania, where
she met her future husband, Francis A. Schaeffer. They we re married
in 1935 and after more schooling and ministry work were sent in 1948
to Switzerland by the Independent Board for Presbyterian Foreign
Missions. In 1955 they began L'Abri, a community that welcomed people
who were seeking answers to questions about God and the meaning of
life. Edith is the author of seventeen books, including L'Abri, What
Is a Family? and Christianity Is Jewish. Widowed since Francis's death
in 1984, she lives near two of her children in Switzerland.
