It is possible to find fairly detailed statistics of the amounts of
human hair imported into the United States from the countries you
listed.

There is also data from other countries as well, several of which are
major suppliers of human hair for wigs. For instance, India,
Indonesia and Italy are all major suppliers of human hair to the US
(in contrast, Spain, Turkey and the Ukraine are fairly minor sources).

Note that the information is only for IMPORTS TO THE US.

I'm afraid that most countries do not provide the same sort of
detailed access to import/export data that can be found for the United
States, so I do not think a full global picture of imports and exports
can be readily put together. However, if you are interested in the
statistics that are available for imports to the US, I can provide
them to you.

The data look like this:

==========

IMPORTS FROM UKRAINE TO THE US:

Human Hair (mostly for wigs): $26,989 755 kg

Wigs, Lashes, etc made
from human hair $48,679 ---

==========

Note that there is only dollar information for the Wigs category.

If this information would be suitable for your needs, let me know and
I will post it as an answer to your question.

Thanks.

Thank you, but the US import information is not helpful. Specifically,
we need the Import/Export information from the 5 countries listed. It
doesn't appear from your response that you tried to find the
information in countries other than the USA.

Oh...I tried all right. But now I've tried even harder, and here is
what I cam up with.

Statistics on imports and exports to and from the five countries you
mentioned -- as well as worldwide data -- are available in the
following categories:

1. Human hair, unworked, whether or not washed or scoured; waste of human hair.

2. Human hair, dressed, thinned, bleached or otherwise worked; wool
or other animal hair or other textile materials, prepared for use in
making wigs or the like.

3. Wigs, false beards, eyebrows etc, of human hair

#1 seems to be the raw material.

#2 is an intermediate material worked in preparation for wig-making,
but as you can see, it also includes some non-human materials as well
(I presume that human hair represents the bulk of the material in this
category, but I have not found information to confirm this).

#3 is the finished wigs, etc made from human hair.

Let me know if one or more of these categories will suffice for your
needs, and if so, I will post the relevant statistics as an answer to
your question.

Great! That's the information we are looking for.

Please include:
1) The source(s)
2) The data for each category (1,2 & 3) that you mentioned, for each
of the 5 countries and global totals.
3) Any other information you found - the more information we have the better.

Thanks for putting in the extra effort! We appreciate it.

The data in the above table were gleaned from COMTRADE -- a United
Nations statistical database on commodities trade which can be
searched at:

http://unstats.un.org/unsd/comtrade/default.aspx

By typing [ human hair ] in the commodity text box, and making
appropriate selections (e.g. Exports from China) in the other pull
down menus, the system will walk you through the steps for creating
your own data tables for commodities of interest to you.

It's a fairly straighforward system, but if you are not familiar with
the various conventions in use for international trading, it can
sometimes be confusing. If any questions arise, just let me know and
I'll be glad to assist you.
