The only problem is that Yahoo Finance classified them in the
advertising industry. However, if you take a look at other companies
within this industry then the companies there are really just
concerned with advertising methods and not creating portals or a
search engine.

In my humble opinion, it seems that Jupitermedia's internet.com is not
really a portal but mainly a tech news site. This is just my opinion.

It seems like a CNN for techies. Can we also call it as a content
site? Probably but it sources it's news too from different entities.
This is probably the reason why Yahoo classified it differently. CBS
Marketwatch is included here because it is a content provider. I can
be wrong but it is probably where Yahoo draw the line as regards to
this one.
