I have some textbooks that I want to digitize to computer files. They are mostly reference books for graduate studies in computer science. I own hard copies of those books but I want a digital archive of them so that I can index and search. I know what I have to do: 1) scan each book page by page, 2) run ocr (optical character recognition), 3) save them as ascii files. But I don't want to do it myself (time-consuming!). I want to ask: is there any company that provides this kind service at a reasonably cost? Thanks, |

Hello, The following links maybe of help, but bear in mind they tend to be targeted towards corporate and office enviroments, though they don't necessarily discriminate against consumers. . CompuPacific http://www.compupacific.com/document_management.htm . United Management Consultancy http://www.umcpl.com/ocr.htm . OffShore Data Entry http://www.offshoredataentry.com/ . IT Outsourcing Inc http://www.itoutsourcingservices.com/ . Prime Recognition http://www.primerecognition.com/augprime/prime_services.htm . I hope that helps you out. . Kind regards . |

I have seen this done in order to convert books to Braille for people who have difficulties with vision. You could have a look at the website: http://www.teleread.org/index.html I have seen a semi-automated system for digitising books, in a college for the blind, but you should perhaps note that to speed up the process, the book was destroyed.
